About the Lido Beach, New York Area

Long Beach New York

Long Beach is a city in Nassau County, New York on a barrier island off the South Shore of Long Island.   It shares the island with Atlantic Beach to the west and Lido Beach and Point Lookout to the east.  The city was incorporated in 1922, and is nicknamed The City By the Sea.  The City of Long Beach is surrounded by the Town of Hempstead.

Beginning in the 1980s and accelerating in the 1990s, Long Beach has begun an urban renewal, with new housing, new businesses and other improvements. Today, the city is again a popular bedroom community for people working in New York, attracted by the quiet beach atmosphere and the easy, 55-minute train commute.

Along the boardwalk, there are condos and co-ops, with several brand new, upscale luxury apartments along the 2 mile boardwalk, overlooking the sparkling Atlantic ocean.  The BW has many events throughout the summer. There are concerts, fairs and art shows.  The boardwalk is a mecca for those inclined to walk, bike, run and breathe in the clean fresh air.  (WS this para)

Lido Beach New York

Lido Beach is a tiny barrier island community (population less than 5000 residents) between Long Beach and Point Lookout, just off Long Island's southern shore. It is perfect for those dreaming of a place where every home is near the water. There is essentially one main road, the Lido Boulevard, that runs through it separating the neighborhoods on the Atlantic Ocean from the houses on the Reynold Channel. On either side are houses and parks including the Nassau Beach Park and the Lido Beach Golf Course.

There is a variety of styles of houses to be seen in the quiet, tree lined streets. There are Colonials, split levels, high ranches, split ranches, Mediterranean and contemporaries. There are two condominium complexes, The Lido Townehouse and the Lido Towers.  The beach is mostly public for nassau county residents except for the private beach at Lido Townehouse, and a stretch for those living in the dunes.  There a 16-block section on the southeast side of Lido Beach which is accessible by a boardwalk. The pristine beach is rarely crowded.  Lido Beach is a short hop from/to JFK Airport and 27 miles from midtown Manhattan.

Point Lookout New York

Point Lookout is a hamlet located in the Town of Hempstead in Nassau County, New York. The population is just under 1500.  Marlene Dietrich and Charles Atlas had homes at Point Lookout.

What makes this community special is its small town ambiance.  There is no mail delivery, an arrangement that creates a sense of community, as residents tend to meet at the post office. Activities in Point Lookout focus on the water: kayaking, Jet-Skiing, canoeing, fishing, power-boating and sailing. There are two public marinas, with boats available for rent or charter.  All of its beaches are private.    There are lovely restaurants, several with spectacular views, right on the water.
